Historic BHS Team is Off To A Great Start
On May 6, 2026, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) voted to officially sanction Womens Flag Football as a Varsity Sport, making NC the 22nd State in the country to sanction high school girls flag football. Competition for the newly sanctioned sport officially began in the fall of 2026, with the first games kicking off September 9th.
Brevard High School was fortunate to have the perfect head coach candidate already on staff. Coach Heidi Jordan (BHS PE) has been involved in high school athletics for nearly 20 years, coaching and supporting numerous sports throughout her career. She has been closely involved with the BHS Football program for the past 20 years, serving as a statistician and "gaining valuable experience and insight into the game." Coach Jordan also played on a women's football team, "giving her the opportunity to experience the game from a player's perspective."
Coach Jordan says about her coaching philosophy..."My coaching philosophy is centered on building relationships, developing athletes both on and off the field, and creating a positive team environment where every athlete feels valued and challenged to improve. I believe athletics should teach more than just skills and competition--they should develop confidence, discipline, teamwork,leadership, and perserverance." She goes on to share.."I am excited to bring my years of experience, passion for athletics, and commitment to student-athletes to my coaching role. I look forward to building a strong program; representing our school and community with pride, and helping our athtletes reach their full potential."
The first ever team is Head Coach Heidi Jordan, Assistant Coach Brady Horne, and players: Evie Allison, Clara Anderson, Zia Brown, Zimiri Brown, Eliana Campanini, Myrikal Collington, Lexi Ellington, Mary Fritschie, Hadley George, Samora Griffin, Georgia Healy, Ruby Jackson, Leigha Jones, Ella McNeely, Maddix Robinson, Naila Saltzman, and Kynleigh Williams.
The team is off to a 3-0 start with wins over North Buncombe 37-0, Erwin 39-13, and Smoky Mountain 27-6. Their first home game is Wednesday September 30th...be there to see and support this historic team.
